I have great memories of coming to the drag strip. The local people would be out on their lawn sitting in their chairs watching us all come for the day. The good ole tractor that would pull us out at the end of the stip if by some chance we could not stop. We had a 1968 440 Coronet with every option available. It was a late model year order and when they built it, they just put in whatever they had left over. Of course once the marriage and children came, the car went. Now the children are out on their own, college loans are paid, we now have a 1969 Plymouth Belvedere II, 383, built of course. Thanks for the memories.
JoAnn
Memories are GREAT. Thank you. JoAnn

I first raced here in 1966 on a Honda 160 and ran a best time of 17.62 @ 72mph. Screamin hugh? I still have five bike trophys from that time. I also ran my 1968 chevelle 396 which may be the one in the pics? I ran a best of 13.98 @ 98 MPH. Because of Kings Dragway which lit the fire. I started my motorcycle drag career on the Top Banana Yamaha a 350 Yamaha that ran a best of 11.06 @ 122mph 1/4 mile pass. Many great drag racing memories at Kings Dragway! Thank you

Around 94 I ran across a 59 or 60 Chevy in a junkyard in Red Creek that had one of the side windows covered in class winner stickers. I Cant remember if it was a sedan or a wagon, but I seem to remember it was now on a 4x4 chassis. The car was really rough, but Id sure like to have that side glass if it still exists. Anyone know who might have run that car?
Foots junkyard in Sodus Center had a red and white 56 Chevy 4dr sedan that had quite a few too.

I had many great times racing at the track in the last few years. Made some new friends too. We sure are sad to see it closed again, after it beat the odds and opened after sitting for 25 years.
I drove 5 hrs one way each month to race there.
I guess everyone can pull out their gears and stall converters and go back to sitting in lawn chairs at car shows waiting to collect their trophy and go home.

I SUGGEST YOU REVIEW "WHO" ACTUALLY IS THE SPEED RECORD HOLDER AT THIS RACETRACK
THE SPEED RECORD IS INDEED 166 MPH
HOWEVER IT IS NOT HELD BY JON BUTTON !!
AT THE SECOND ANNUAL DRAGSTRIP REUNION I
NOTICED IN THE PROGRAM WHERE "BUTTON" HAD TOLD THE REESE FAMILY HE HELD THE RECORD AT 182 MPH AND THEY ENTERED THAT IN THE TEXT
THIS I CHALLENGED AND IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER PAUL JACKSON DROVE IN !!
I WENT TO PAUL AND IN FRONT OF NAMABLE WITNESSES ASKED PAUL WHO WAS THE FASTEST AT HIS TRACK ?
HIS ANSWER "DICK GAYLORD AT 166 MPH "!!
CHECK WITH PAUL JACKSON ON THIS .
I CONFRONTED BUTTON WITH THIS 182 MPH , BECAUSE HE NEVER WENT 182 ANYWHERE !! .
AND HE APPARENTLY CHANGED HIS CLAIM TO THE SPEED I RAN !! BULLSHIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WELL NOTHINGS CHANGED IN 50 YEARS , HE WAS NOTHING THEN, AND OBVIOUSLY HE IS NOTHING NOW
SINCERELY , DICK GAYLORD/NOSTALGIA TOP FUEL
NHRA LIC # 150NTF
STILL RUNNIG TOP FUEL @ 70 YRS
CHECK THIS STORY OUT WITH PAUL JACKSON
INCIDENTALLY I HAVE PICTURES OF MY RUN ON
AUGUST 4 1963 WHEN I MADE "MY" RECORD RUN

I ran C altered class and won the champion ship for 1959.32 3 window ford cpe.power by a modified 1953 olds rocket engine. I ran A gas class and won the champion ship for 1960. 32 5 window Ford Cpe. Powered by a highly modified 1957 Chevey engine. I still owne this car! My son and Grandson are in the early process of restoration. I have quite a few pictures on 35 mm slides of diffrent cars that raced back then. I am getting them put on 4X6 color prints. Ps my wife still has one of the red pit passes .

1962...Had a 51 Ford V8, stick w/OD, all stock except for dual exhaust (Smitty Mufflers...WOW!) and a lotta primer, running time trials next to a 62 Pontiac 421 super stocker (Ponchos and 409 Chevys were the hot stuff in 62)when I hit second gear, he was already through the lights, but I DID pass him in the shutdown area at tracks end, his 7 inch cheater slicks didnt work too good in the mud a few hundred feet past the lights! Blue Bell was a pretty hot Ford (62/406??)at Savannah back then,Rocky R.(the old guys know who I mean)and his georgeous black 57 Chevy...around 1964, I ran a 57 Chebby myself a few times at Savannah, have a trophy somewhere in the basement, along with a couple from Niagara and Spencer.........Lancaster Dragway has put on a tribute show for quite a few years, coming up this weekend, "Sunday Niagara".......would be awesome if we had a "Sunday Savannah".....THANX for the memories!

I remember We would make the Big Circle and drive as far North as Kings Dragway then hit Lebanon valley Drag strip and finish out at Dover Drag strip before headin home which at the time was Brewster N.Y. But watching My dad and his friends was As Big a Summer Dream as any kid could ever have like Tommy Valentines 1957 Chevy Pied piper and Clem Lachances Mad Frenchman 40 Willys tommy Leach and his Oneway street 67 Camaro and Dads Good friend Jungle George from Thornwood NY and many others. And Now today We Own The Gillettes Old place on Rt-31 in Savannah where I hope after My Divorce I can get back to My First Love Of Drag racing and Car Building . I forgot to tell you I'm in my 40s now and ready to Rock South Butlers Dragstrip Like My pop did years ago.
